		<description>FFDSHOW is not a standard windows program. This was basically started to compete with the DivX programs ... now, the best suggestion would be to uninstall ffdshow from your control panel and then use VLC to access your files.

If your computer crashes everytime you open a particular folder, the problem may not be with ffdshow, but just that the sector might be corrected and there is a chance you may not recover the files in there. 

To override ffshow from opening any files of a particular extenstion (say mp4), right click on any mp4 file and use &quot;open with&quot; option to make it open with vlc player and select the &quot;as default&quot; option ...
